Jodi Scott, Senior Planner, Facilities Planning has been recognized with the 2017 President’s Service Award for Excellence. This Award is presented each year to up to five staff members who have made outstanding contributions to UBC and who excel in their personal achievements.

Jodi is dedicated to providing everyone in the UBC community with the best possible physical learning spaces in which to excel.

Jodi has spent her 15-year career at UBC dedicated to the well being of UBC’s community by ensuring that UBC’s educational spaces work to meet the needs of students and faculty, by making sure that there are spaces on campus to support all types of learning, from informal spaces to traditional classrooms.

“I see being recognized by Professor Ono and the selection committee as an endorsement of the importance of learning spaces on campus and the work of my team,” says Jodi. “I’m humbled to be included with the many amazing people who have been recognized both this year and in the past.”

She is a true leader to her team, and fosters relationships with partner groups across all UBC’s campuses to ensure that everyone has access to high-quality educational spaces.

“Jodi deserves to be recognized on many fronts and one that always inspires me is the relationship-building she has done with her team and many working partners across UBC. With her leadership, they have created classroom spaces that are so functional, comfortable, and loved by students, that students never want to leave some of the new ones,” observes award nominator Catherine Alkenbrack. “UBC’s discerning students vote with their time and feet. What greater compliment or measure of excellence and success of learning spaces than the approval of our key constituents?”

Beyond the classroom, Jodi believes in giving back and enhancing her community. She has been an ardent United Way supporter since before her time at UBC, and this year will reprise her Co-Chair role for the 2017-18 UBC United Way Community Campaign.

Jodi joins Michael Gesi, Security Coordinator, Okanagan Campus Security, Bruce Gillespie, Mechanical Engineering Technician, Department of Zoology, Margaret Leathley, Pension Administrator, UBC Staff Pension Plan and Karen McKellin, Executive Director, International Student Initiative in this honour.
