Get to know: Entela Ifti, Intermediate Budget Analyst with the Comptroller’s Budget Department

What do you do for the university?

I’m doing what I love to do: crunching and making sense of abstract nature of numbers (I love math!!). Constantly searching for ideas to create more meaningful, efficient summaries and automated templates that will provide the necessary information on forecast, budget, and historical actuals in timely manner.

What’s your passion?

I love architectural drawing and sketching.

What makes you laugh?

The perception people have in general, about accountants being stiff and boring! But, I actually laugh with my goofy sister and son who always manage to create a contagious laugh that will give you tummy cramps.

Who inspires you, and why?

I’m inspired by hard-working and good-hearted people, who’d put their interests aside and help make this world a better place!

What’s the most important lesson you’ve learned?

To regularly review and challenge the assumptions that create the basis of my thoughts.

What is your favourite song or book?

My current favourite book is “Thinking, Fast and Slow” by Daniel Kahneman which reveals the flaws of the human thought process. One of my favourite songs: “Listen to Your Heart” a song by Swedish duo Roxette!

What’s your favourite or ideal vacation spot?

My ideal vacation spot is a warm, sunny place, somewhere in Mediterranean Sea where I could merge into the culture, food and art; where I could jog in early morning and go for long walks along the beach catching the last sunset.

How do you like to recharge?

To recharge, I run/jog during the lunch breaks and I surround myself with family and good friends on weekends.

What is your personal vision?

My vision is to become a better person than what I was in the morning and continue chasing my dreams.

What quality do you most admire in a leader?

In a leader, I value the most their Integrity, communication skills, loyalty and their empowerment of people who work for them.

For you, what makes UBC different?

Beautiful campuses, a great variety of food choices, and above all being surrounded by bright students, faculty, and staff.

If you could have a super power, what would it be?

Teleportation! This will enable me to meet my parents and siblings across the sea on weekends for lunch and coffee.

What would you like to be remembered for?

I’d like to be remembered for my good deeds and never giving up on my dreams.
