VCH Rapid Antigen Testing distribution centre available at the Life Sciences Centre

Vancouver Coastal Health (VCH) has opened a COVID-19 testing site located at the Life Sciences Centre on UBC Vancouver campus.  This testing facility will be managed and staffed by VCH, and COVID-19 PCR testing will not be available. Please check the VCH website for up-to-date information prior to visiting the testing site.

Preliminary approval received for the downtown Kelowna project

The UBC Downtown Kelowna project recently received preliminary approval from the Board of Governors meeting on December 5, 2021 to move forward with this project. Since February 2021, design work has been in progress and is on track for construction commencing late 2022.

Celebrating promotions within the newly renamed division – Occupational Health and Safety, Safety & Risk Services

Safety & Risk Services is making changes to its reporting structures to strengthen alignment with the university’s strategic priorities. Janet Hankins has been promoted to Manager – Research Compliance and Occupational Hygiene, Paul Gill to Manager, Health & Safety Partnerships, and Paul Nakagawa to Manager – Safety Program Management and Systems.

Last pick-ups from Environment Services Facilities will be on December 16

The Environmental Services Facilities (ESF) will be closed starting December 20, 2021 until January 4, 2022. The last day of pick-ups from academic departments will be December 16. For questions or concerns, please contact your ESF technicians before December 20. 

Redefining Masculinity  

In 2012, three male psychologists, Dr. William Seymour, Dr Ramel Smith, and Dr. Hector Torres, try to help redefine American masculinity in the wake of violence within the prison population. Despite their very different experiences of boyhood, the three psychologists have at least one thing in common: a mission to redefine American masculinity.

Sean McGregor joins Mechanical Trades as People & Process Manager in Building Operations

Sean joins the mechanical team with strong customer service experience from his current role as Blue Zone Facilities Manager in Customer Services & Informatics. He has a trades background as an electrician, and has a solid understanding of UBC’s heating, ventilation, and air conditioning (HVAC) systems, and related controls. Sean’s first day in this role will be Monday, January 17, 2022.

A reminder to stick to primary routes when driving to campus

When extreme weather comes to UBC Vancouver, Municipal Services in Building Operations is responsible for managing snow and ice within the Vancouver campus. Our snow removal and deicing vehicles work in priority zones to ensure the highest risk areas of campus are open first.

UBC Launches Indigenous Finance Guidelines and Spend Category for Status Indian Individuals on Reserve

The Guidelines review current payment practices at UBC and highlight some of the disparities in standard processes for the disbursement of funds to Indigenous partners. They also describe the alternative, flexible payment process piloted by IRSI and conclude with a recommended financial process for wider adoption at UBC.

Pulu brings to UBC over 20 years of experience as a Business Systems Analyst across various industries, including eCommerce, telecom, insurance, and health care. Reporting to Jeff Lei, Business Intelligence Manager, Pulu will specialize in Planon reporting and support other business intelligence and continuous improvement projects.
