UBC Second Quarter 2021/22 Financial Report is now available

The university’s second quarter 2021/22 financial report is now available on the UBC Finance website. While the university continues to operate under an element of uncertainty related to the pandemic—confidence in the forecast is solidifying, with strong indications from Enrolment Services and the return to historic student housing occupancy rates.

Delay in ordering UBC Visa cards 

Please note that the Credit Card team will hold off on ordering new UBC Visa cards starting from Wednesday, December 15, 2021, until Tuesday, January 4, 2022, due to office closure during the holiday season. 

Cheryl Berge begins new role as the new Director, Financial Reporting

Leading her team, Cheryl will support the Comptroller and Assistant Comptroller in implementing the strategic direction for UBC’s Financial Reporting function, as well as continuously improve processes to deliver an excellent stakeholder experience.

Curtis Spencer is promoted to Subhead Electrical Maintenance in Building Operations

Curtis joined UBC in February 2017 working on campus street lights before moving to the electrical controls crew where he took on both the green and teal zones. Curtis has vast experience in commercial and industrial settings, and has shown great leadership in how he deals with difficult conversations and complex situations.

National Day of Remembrance & Action on violence against women 

December 6, 2021, is the National Day of Remembrance and Action on Violence Against Women. This day is about remembering those who have experienced gender-based violence and those who we have lost to it. It is also a time to take action. 

New water meter installation on 16th Avenue in the University Endowment Lands (UEL)

The University Endowment Lands will be installing a new water meter on 16th Avenue as part of regular maintenance and upgrades. UBC Facilities will support this work from December 14-17, 2021 by switching over our campus water feed, once the new meter is installed.

Supporting UBC Faculty of Dentistry’s simulation and digital dentistry laboratory project

Last year, UBC Dentistry announced plans for a new simulation and digital dentistry laboratory that will allow DMD and DHDP students to learn advancing dental clinical procedures. This June, UBC Supply Management & Infrastructure Development awarded the equipment contract for the simulation and digital dentistry laboratory to Planmeca through an open competitive process.

Grab a sweater and prepare for a cooler campus

With the cooler weather outside, UBC’s heating energy will go up to compensate. During COVID-19, the Facilities team has taken measures to increase and/or enhance building ventilation in UBC buildings to ensure a high standard of safety for students, faculty and staff. A combination of higher ventilation rates and colder weather means UBC buildings may reach their maximum heating capacity this season.
