Major milestone in the Bioenergy Research Demonstration Facility expansion project

The Bioenergy Research Demonstration Facility (BRDF) is burning biomass once again! The Energy & Water Services Thermal Operations Team re-lit the biomass gasification system on November 10, 2021, and the BRDF is now producing renewable thermal energy for the Academic District Energy System (ADES).

Bill Liu promoted to Procurement Officer in UBC Financial Operations

In his new role, Bill will play a key role in leading and completing RFx processes for purchases above $75K. The role is integral to the success of the Procurement Sourcing team by ensuring best procurement practices are being followed.

Commemorating Indigenous Veterans Day 

November 8, 2021, was Indigenous Veterans Day — a day for us to commemorate and reflect on the commitment and sacrifice of over 12,000 Indigenous people who served WWI, WWII, and the Korean War, and to honour those currently serving.  

Sarah Lee joins UBC as Finance Director, Capital Financial Management and Reporting

Reporting directly to Matt Boydston, Assistant Comptroller, Sarah will support the project accounting, reporting, and auditing of capital projects in the newly created CFMR team. Sarah will also provide leadership to the two main streams under the CFMR team: Project Accounting and Capital Financial Reporting.

A Common Ground: Arts Student Centre Opens its Doors

The Arts Student Centre has officially opened its doors to the UBC community. The three-storey building located on East Mall and Walter Gage Road will be a common meeting ground for Arts students to interact across disciplines, with spaces to connect, collaborate on projects, and host events.

Raymond Lum promoted to Subhead Metal Worker in Building Operations

Raymond has been in the metal shop at UBC for seven years and has a wealth of knowledge and experience in layout, fabricating, assembling, welding and installation. He was a participant in the Expression of Interest (EOI) program and is an advocate for safety by serving as a member of the Trades Joint Occupational Health and Safety Committee (JOHSC).
