Relates to priority: Provide Inspiring Spaces
UBC places the safety of students, faculty and staff as its highest priority. Reducing or mitigating the risk of injury or death as a result of a seismic event is critical. As reported to the Board of Governors in April 2018, the plan for the seismic mitigation of the UBC Vancouver campus is being developed to ensure that this risk is reduced as much as possible and as quickly as possible within the university’s logistical and financial capacity.

To serve as custodians of UBC’s infrastructure and ensure our campuses’ safety.
Target
By Q2 FY23 (Aug 2022), complete the two major seismic upgrades (Hebb Building and Museum of Anthropology) on time and within budget, and initiate another seismic upgrade (MacLeod Building) on UBC Vancouver campus.

As a team we create and maintain both physical, and digital spaces at UBC, and it’s important that these spaces further our academic mission while inspiring those that use them. We are custodians of UBC’s infrastructure and are instrumental in ensuring our campuses are safe, functional, beautiful and enable learning.
