Ron Holton

Chief Risk Officer, Safety & Risk Services

Ron is responsible for Safety & Risk Services at UBC. He supports the identification, assessment, and management of all types of risk (strategic, academic, operational, financial, hazard and reputational) in all parts of the organization (faculty, research, students and administration) on the UBC Vancouver and Okanagan campuses.

Ron is an experienced risk management and assurance services professional. Prior to joining UBC, he held the position of Vice President, Risk Management and Assurance Services at the Vancouver Organizing Committee for the 2010 Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games.

Ron also supported the risk management functions in Moscow with the Organizing Committee for the 2014 Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games in Sochi, where he guided and facilitated the development of the Sochi 2014 risk matrix and related reporting.

In 2011, he completed a risk management consulting project for the International Olympic Committee. He also spent time in Rio de Janeiro in 2011 and 2013, providing risk management and insurance consulting support to the Rio 2016 Organizing Committee for the Rio 2016 Olympic and Paralympic Games.

Ron previously worked for British Columbia Railway Company. He spent much of his career with Canadian Forest Products Ltd. (Canfor), a large, integrated forest products company headquartered in Vancouver, where he held several senior management positions in pulp and paper marketing and in risk management.

Ron received a BA Honours degree in Economics from the University of Saskatchewan and an MBA degree in Transportation from the University of British Columbia.
