Welcoming Maggie Ivanova as UBC’s New Chief Enterprise Risk & Assurance Officer

Maggie Ivanova has been appointed UBC’s new Chief Enterprise Risk & Assurance Officer, effective April 7. Maggie brings nearly two decades of leadership in governance, enterprise risk management, and internal audit, providing innovative, value-based advice to senior leaders across diverse sectors.

In her new role, Maggie will report to both the Audit Committee of the Board and the Vice-President, Finance & Operations as part of the VPFO portfolio’s Senior Leadership Team. She will provide strategic leadership to UBC’s internal assurance (IA) and enterprise risk management (ERM) functions, ensuring they align with the university’s strategic goals and evolving needs.

Maggie has a proven track record in building and leading robust ERM and IA programs. Most recently, she served as AVP Internal Audit, GRC Advisory at Peoples Group, where she established and led the Advisory Function, enhancing governance, risk, and control practices. Prior to that, she led the Enterprise Risk Management function at the British Columbia Institute of Technology (BCIT), successfully building and implementing BCIT’s ERM Program.

Known for her strategic thinking, deep business acumen, and ability to create practical solutions to complex organizational challenges, Maggie is an empathetic and influential leader who inspires teams through her vision and commitment to making a difference. She holds an MBA in Strategic Management from McGill University and is a Certified Internal Auditor (CIA) with a Certification in Risk Management Assurance (CRMA).

Thank you to Allen Amyotte, who has been serving as Acting Chief Enterprise Risk & Assurance Officer. Allen’s leadership and dedication have been instrumental during this transition period. I am pleased that Allen will be returning to his role of Director, Internal Assurance for the university.
