As we approach the holiday season, I want to take a moment to express my sincere thanks for your incredible efforts and reflect on what the VPFO team has achieved in 2024.
We are an incredible team of over 1,400 people. Believe it or not we make up 10 per cent of UBC’s staff across both campuses, and as a team we make connections that touch every element of this community. We truly have the biggest impact on the university, and it’s not just the size of the team that’s impressive — it’s the diversity of what we do. From maintaining over 400 hectares of land and 189 buildings to ensuring 24/7 safety and security, and from advancing a culture of informed decision-making to stewarding UBC’s financial resources, our work provides the foundation for this world-class university.
To accomplish what we do takes the contribution of every single team member — each of us plays a part in enabling excellence at UBC. Whether it’s maintaining inspiring spaces for future leaders, procuring cutting-edge research equipment, or enhancing community safety and resilience, every specialized skill and collective effort directly supports UBC’s academic mission and vision. When we work together, that’s when we make a difference.
Thank you all for the outstanding work that you do. This year brought its challenges, but also significant growth, collaboration, and resilience. We are moving forward in our vision to become the best in university operations, here in Canada and around the world, and we have a lot to be proud of.
Whatever traditions you celebrate, I hope you have an opportunity this holiday season to relax, recharge, and reflect upon your successes this year.
Wishing you the happiest of holidays,
Frank Laezza
