Rowena Yang

Associate Vice-President, Finance

Rowena provides strategic leadership and oversight of financial services across the institution, including financial planning and analysis, budgeting, governance and reporting. She will continue to steward UBC’s integrated distributed financial model, ensuring consistent financial practice and informed, strategic decision-making across Faculties and administrative portfolios.

Rowena joins us from Finning International, where she served as a senior finance leader for nearly 20 years, most recently as Global Finance Director, where the total revenues exceeded $10.6 billion in 2025. Her experience includes leading the company’s global planning, forecasting, capital allocation, and reporting processes across Canada, the UK, and South America. Her role included overseeing the consolidated budgeting cycles, delivering Board-level reporting and executive insights, and providing oversight for key enterprise planning and consolidation systems. She worked closely with Treasury, Investor Relations, Human Resources, and external reporting teams to support enterprise-wide decision-making and partnered with regional finance leaders and teams to align financial plans with strategic priorities.  

Rowena is an alumna of UBC with a Bachelor of Commerce from the Sauder School of Business and holds a Chartered Professional Accountant (CPA) designation. She began her career in audit and assurance with Grant Thornton LLP and later held an Assistant Vice President role with Marsh Management Services in Bermuda, where she gained foundational experience in audit, risk, and financial management.
