Helen Yung

Comptroller

Along with the Treasurer and the AVP Finance & Integrated Services, Helen leads financial management at UBC. As Comptroller, she oversees the delivery of finance support to all faculties and administrative units across UBC’s Vancouver campus, as well as the finance function at the Okanagan campus. She also leads the university’s core budget and financial reporting units, which deliver oversight of the university’s budget development and financial reporting to the campus community, the Board of Governors, external stakeholders, and the interested public. The Comptroller’s office provides leadership to accounting activities and financial compliance, planning and analysis, and reporting of financial information.

Helen joined UBC from Vancouver Coastal Health (VCH) Authority where she was a valued senior finance leader for over 20 years, most recently serving as VCH’s Executive Director, Controller and Financial Services. Her experience includes leading all aspects of financial management, including overseeing the controllership function at VCH as well as the health authority’s annual operating budget of over $5 billion.

Helen holds a degree in Bachelor of Business Administration, Accounting, from the University of Texas-Austin and a Master of Business Administration from the University of Wisconsin-Madison. She believes in people-centred leadership, valuing integrity, transparency, and collaboration in her approach to building strategic partnerships and achieving organizational goals.
