A Reminder to “Sort it Out” – UBCO Sustainability Office Partners with Students on Renewed Campaign

This fall the Sustainability Office on UBC’s Okanagan campus partnered with a team of fourth-year geography students, as well as the Facilities Management and Food Services teams, to renew awareness of the importance of “Sorting it Out” when it comes to waste management.

The students developed a new video for campus to serve as a peer-to-peer educational tool addressing current waste and recycling issues, and the importance of improving sorting compliance. The video serves as a great reminder of the impact that observing best recycling practices can have on waste management — in 2018 alone the Okanagan campus diverted 36 per cent of its waste from the landfill by taking positive action. Learn more about the campaign and watch the video on the UBC Okanagan Sort it Out web page.

Of course recycling compliance is of the utmost importance across all of UBC’s campuses and learning sites. More information on how Sorting it Out works on the Vancouver campus is available on the UBC Vancouver Sustainability website. Or remind yourself what goes where by playing the UBC Sustainability Sort it Out game.

The UBCO Sustainability Office is part of the Finance & Operations group on the Okanagan Campus, which is part of the VPFO portfolio.
