Celebrating Pride Month at UBC

June is Pride Month. It’s a time when we celebrate the diversity of LGBTQ+ communities, while acknowledging the long-standing fight for equality and justice. It is also an opportunity for us to reflect on and consider what each of us can do individually, and institutionally, to be inclusive — so that we all feel welcome and can fully access, participate, and thrive in all aspects of university life.

This CBC slideshow provides an overview of the strides LGBTQ+ people across Canada have made, from protests, and celebrations to parades for lesbian, gay, bisexual, and trans rights.

At UBC, we’re proud of our diverse students, faculty and staff. As President Santa Ono has once said, “Pride in our diversity – diversity that makes UBC such an incredible place to live, work, and learn – is something to celebrate and honour all year-long.”

This June, explore the many Pride activities at UBC, connect with your community, help create positive space on and off campus and stand up for sexual orientation and gender identity (SOGI) diversity.
