Updates from the VPFO

  • Notice of Acting Comptroller July 1-10: Karamjeet Heer, Interim Vice-President, Finance, will be on vacation from July 1-10 inclusive. During her absence, she has designated Matt Boydston, Assistant Comptroller (matt.boydston@ubc.ca), as the “Acting Comptroller”. Karamjeet will resume responsibility as Comptroller effective Monday, July 11th.
  • Notice of Acting Deputy Vice-Chancellor (DVC) July 6-22 & August 2-5: While Lesley Cormack, DVC of UBC Okanagan is on vacation:
    • Phil Barker, Vice-Principal, Research (philip.barker@ubc.ca) will be Acting DVC from July 6–22.
    • Rehan Sadiq, Provost & Vice-President, Academic pro tem (Rehan.Sadiq@ubc.ca) will be Acting DVC from August 2–5.

Comptroller, Finance & Operational Excellence and Treasury

  • Launching the Lean Six Sigma Community of Practice (CoP): Operational Excellence is launching a Community of Practice (CoP) for Lean Six Sigma Yellow, Green, and Black Belt practitioners across UBC through its first community meeting on August 9. Learn more
  • Increase in CRA prescribed interest rate: The CRA Prescribed Interest Rate will increase to 2% effective July 1, 2022. This is the interest rate used to calculate taxable benefits for employees from interest-free and low-interest loans. Learn more
  • New contracts available for Executive Search and Recruitment: The agreements with the approved providers will ensure simplified procurement process, access to a prequalified vendor pool of highly recognized executive search firms in BC, and commitment to incorporate UBC EDI values into recruitment processes. Learn more
  • Changes to UBC Service Levy: The Services Levy Notices issued in 2022 will be due on August 8, 2022. Read about the payment options available for the community.

  • Updated COVID-19 Campus Rules: The COVID-19 Campus Rules have recently been updated to align with the latest requirements from UBC. There is now no general requirement to wear a face covering on UBC Premises, except in certain clinical healthcare settings, or while carrying out certain clinical healthcare activities on UBC Premises. Learn more
