  • Update to Wesbrook Construction: Wesbrook Mall between Walter Gage Road and Chancellor Boulevard remains fully closed to traffic until Sept 30. The work on Chancellor Boulevard will move into the eastbound lane starting Aug 8 resulting in a full closure of the eastbound lane until mid-Sept. This work will also affect nearby sidewalks. Learn more

  • Top 5 tips for preventing pay errors: UBC Payroll team developed a guide to offer some ways departments and administrators can prevent pay errors for their faculty, staff, and student employees, as well as how to proactively address those issues if they occur. Read more
  • New Side-by-Side View for Supplier Invoices: On the View Supplier Invoice page, users can now view the attached supplier invoice side-by-side with the invoice details in Workday. This new view allows reviewers and approvers of the supplier invoices to compare the invoice with the information entered in Workday more easily. Visit Workday This Week for more information.
  • June Interest Rates: The June interest rates are now updated and available on the UBC Finance website.

  • Sean Lynch has been promoted to Director, Custodial Services within UBC Facilities effective August 2, 2022. Congratulations, Sean!
  • Achraj Singh joined Finance & Operational Excellence as Payroll Operations Support Specialist on July 25.
  • Calin Rad has been promoted to Senior Procurement Officer within Finance & Operational Excellence as of July 18. Congratulations, Calin!
  • Gillian Zhang has been promoted to Sourcing Lead, Construction in Finance & Operational Excellence as of July 25. She will continue to support Infrastructure Development’s Project Services team within Facilities. Congrats, Gillian!
  • Nishant Kalia joined Finance & Operational Excellence as Associate Director, Procurement Partnerships on July 20. Nishant will be replacing Philippa Horton during her maternity leave. Welcome, Nishant, and congratulations, Philippa!
  • Farewell to Genesis Magat, NAV Data Systems Analyst. Genesis joined Infrastructure Development of Facilities in 2016 as a Project Administrator before stepping into his current role nine months later. His last day at UBC will be this Friday, August 5. Thank you for your contribution, Genesis!
  • Farewell to James Heth, Assistant Treasurer, Contracts & Leases. Over the past 11 years, James has overseen the leasing and licensing of UBC’s property and space, housing loans, service levy billing and collections, negotiations of treasury-related contracts, and provided leadership and mentoring to the Treasury team. His last day will be August 19. Thank you for your contribution, James!

Sean Zheng from Facilities’ Stores team putting Lean Six Sigma into practice

Sean Zheng, a Store Operator and Lean Six Sigma Yellow Belt graduate, recently implemented a simple yet effective process improvement that not only results in a 50% decrease in average custodial order pick time but also reduces operators’ risk of back pain from material handling.

Thank you Sean for demonstrating that simple incremental changes can make a huge difference in the workspace and the team!

Celebrating Pride on the 5th floor of TEF 3 with Masa Ishida from the ISC

In celebration of Pride Month in Vancouver, Masa Ishida, Functional Support Analyst from the ISC and the team put together a decoration on the 5th floor of TEF 3.

“While it is great to celebrate Pride during pride months, it is important that we strive to create a welcoming and inclusive environment, where people feel safe and empowered to be themselves every day of the year,” notes Masa.
