Frank Laezza — Get to Know UBC’s new Vice-President Finance & Operations

It would be difficult for anyone to argue that Frank Laezza isn’t willing to go the distance for UBC. Fresh off a flight from Perth, Australia, he quite literally came from the opposite side of the planet to take up his post as the university’s new Vice-President, Finance & Operations.

UBC will be included in Homelessness Services Association of BC’s Point-in-Time Homeless Count

UBC Campus Security and UBC Sprouts — a 100% volunteer and student-run organization at UBC, along with volunteers from across the university will be taking part in the Homelessness Services Association of BC’s Point-in-Time Homeless Count to collect details about the experiences and demographics of people who are experiencing homelessness.

Oliver Choo joins as Finance Director, Vice President Research and Innovation

In his new role, Oliver will be responsible for providing strategic financial leadership within the 16 units of the VPRI portfolio. In addition to managing the portfolio budget of $58M, Oliver will support key initiatives that have significant impact on the research community such as Share Research Platform (SRP).

Dimitri Kavouras steps into new role as Subhead Controls Electrician in Building Operations

Passionate about contributing to the UBC community, Dimitri is a current shop steward, previous union delegate, and participant in two apprenticeship committees. He was awarded the Kim Nulty award in 2020 for his contributions and excellence in categories like employee engagement, asset stewardship and customer service. 

Demolition of UBC Power House this summer

This Summer, the UBC Power House will undergo demolition to prepare for the development of the new UBC Sauder School of Business expansion. The stunning 11-storey building will be constructed next to the current Sauder School of Business in the Henry Angus Building and is expected to open in 2026.

Have you completed all UBC Required Training?

On March 6, staff and student-staff who are not up to date on their UBC Required Training will receive a Workday notification as a reminder to complete the training(s). Please keep an eye out for this new notification and check that you have completed the most up-to-date version of a necessary required training.

T2200S forms are now available for faculty and staff

The Canada Revenue Agency (CRA) continues to offer two ways employees may be able to claim home office expenses for the 2022 tax year. The second of these CRA options requires the T2200S tax form, which is now available for UBC faculty and staff in Workday.

T4/T4A tax slips are now available for faculty and staff

UBC faculty and staff can now access their payroll-related 2022 T4 and T4A tax slips for personal income tax returns through Workday. Full information, including how to access the tax slips and request support, is available on the UBC Finance website.
