The VPFO’s portfolio finance team is evolving to help us perform and grow
When we talk about finance at UBC, we often think about the VP Finance & Operations (VPFO) leading the university’s $3.65 billion consolidated budget process. However, what we sometimes overlook is our own portfolio’s finance team who are responsible for almost $300 million of that budget.

The VP Finance & Operations is expanding with the addition of UBC’s Enterprise Risk & Assurance
Effective January 15, 2024, the VP Finance & Operations (VPFO) will be welcoming UBC’s Enterprise Risk & Assurance (ERA) team to the portfolio. This strategic transition is part of our ongoing efforts to optimize the university’s organizational structure, enhance operational synergies, and ultimately improve risk-informed decision-making and reporting.
Gilberto Andrade is promoted to Building Asset Specialist within Facilities’ Building Operations
Gilberto Andrade is promoted to Building Asset Specialist and will be joining Building Operations within Facilities starting January 29, 2024. His expertise and data-driven decision-making will enhance asset management procedures, creating efficient and sustainable spaces for research, teaching, and learning at UBC Vancouver.
Construction begins on the Laboratory of Archeology – Iona Building
Construction has begun on the new Community Research Centre in the Laboratory of Archeology at the Iona Building. This project aims to create a new space for housing archaeological collections recovered from ancient villages and other archaeological sites around the province of BC .
Celebrating Lean Six Sigma Yellow and Green Belt graduates across UBC on November 30, 2023
On November 30, the Project Management Office hosted its biannual ceremony at the Performance Theatre in the AMS Student Nest to celebrate our most recent Lean Six Sigma Yellow and Green Belt graduates who completed a rigorous program to become officially certified as Lean Six Sigma practitioners.
